Off Grid Power
Before rural electrification became widespread, people living outside cities who wanted the convenience of electric lights, battery-less radios, or electric water pumps needed to generate their own electricity "off the grid". Installations involved a set of batteries (typically lead-acid in banks of 16) charged by either a wind driven dynamo or a gasoline powered engine-generator. This gallery is dedicated to the pioneers who built their own generating plants and storage battery banks. Images include: windchargers, Delco-Light 32 volt plants, batteries, etc.
